Has anyone seen Chris?

Posted in Uncategorized on July 28, 2010 by maryiscontrary

I got back to work today after 2 weeks off. Nice to be back, but I’m still feeling a bit snotty.

Sandra gave me a note from Chris! Apparently he came in, asked for me and was really upset that I was off. Sandra offered to help but he said only I could help him? He scribbled some numbers on a scrap of paper and told Sandra to tell me it’s urgent.

What should I do? I think these might be co-ordinates…

Flu

Posted in Uncategorized on July 28, 2010 by maryiscontrary

I’m ill. I’ve got the flu. I’ve been off work for a week. I’m in bed and I never want to get out. I wish I had someone to bring me some soup or a sandwich or some grapes or some chocolate. My head feels like a deflated football. I’ve been through 5 boxes of tissues!

At least it’s given me time to catch up on some reading. What would I do without books???

Chris came in the day before I got sick. He told me how he went blind. Well, he told me a story – I don’t know how much is true. It sounds insane, actually. Apparently he was at the British Museum, trying to clear his head, and he heard a sound that forced him to look up (that’s what he said, it forced him) and he saw…something. Something amazing. Something beautiful. Something that he’s been trying to remember, trying to find, ever since. Maybe he’s finally lost his mind but maybe…

Do you ever feel like the universe is trying to tell you something, but you can’t quite figure out what?

Poor old Chris

Chris’s wife died! I mean, not today, she died years ago! In a fire in their home. Poor Chris! And then he got so depressed and messed up he couldn’t look after his son anymore and he was taken into care! How dreadful. His son was called something odd, I can’t remember what, Adan? Eden? Oden? Oben? Yes, I think it might have been Oben.

Poor old Chris. I think his mind must be going. He’s been alone for so long, and now he’s lost his sight. He’s a bit cagey about how he went blind. I asked him and he said he’d tell me when he knew. Weird.

Sandra’s wearing denim hotpants today. The men couldn’t stop staring.

Sandra’s shoes

Posted in Uncategorized on July 28, 2010 by maryiscontrary

Sandra is wearing the most HORRIBLE shoes today. Completely inappropriate for work! Here’s a quick snap I took sneakily with my phone…

Horrible, right?? I don’t know how she gets away with it!
And…. breathe.

I have a new addition to my computer class. He’s called Chris. He’s blind and I think he lives on the street. He comes in pretty much everyday and I help him with his weird blog. I helped him to set it up. Bless his heart. He’s obviously been through something very traumatic but he doesn’t talk much about himself. Mainly he talks about his son and his wife and ‘the light’. Maybe he’s religious but he doesn’t talk about god. I don’t know if he’s mad, or drunk, or on something, or just really weird, but I think he’s harmless.

I wish I had the courage to wear shoes like Sandra’s. Oh, well.

Libraries.

Libraries are my favourite places. I guess that’s why I ended up working in one. This is one of the stacks in the library where I work (I won’t say where, in case you’re a psycho!)

My job is the best. I do general admin, take shifts on the front desk, answer questions and help people find what they’re looking for. And I run the IT classes.

Libraries are so much fun. And you meet the most interesting people. Lots of lost souls take refuge here. It’s friendly, warm, free, there are comfy chairs and toilets, so it’s a perfect haven for people who’ve lost their way.

Ooh, here comes one now. He looks lost. No, wait… he’s blind?
